Commentary: Questions about the Keystone XL Pipeline have been asked and answered
October 7, 2013
The Department of State review of the Keystone XL pipeline has been comprehensive and favorable, yet President Barack Obama continues to stall approval of the project. U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy, D-Jupiter, has been a strong advocate for the pipeline, casting a favorable floor vote with 18 other Democrats.
Construction of the pipeline would create thousands of jobs while potentially bringing 830,000 barrels of oil per day – about half of what is imported from the Persian Gulf. Crude imports from Canada could reach 4 million barrels a day by 2020, reducing our reliance on unpredictable nations and strengthening our national security.
