By Congressman Morgan Griffith (VA): The 2017 hurricane season has been the most active and destructive to the United States in a number of years. The challenge of rebuilding is daunting. As part of the rebuilding process, we should learn how to better prepare for similar events in the future.

It supports over 266,000 jobs - jobs which boast salaries more than $20,000 greater than the state average. It also contributes over $11.9 billion in worker wages and adds over $22 billion to the state economy."
Have you heard? Transporting oil through pipelines is a threat to humanity! The many accidents highlighted in the press speak for themselves. Except that pipeline accidents are rare - and many accounts contain exaggerations.
... as we look for ways to build up economies of our rural communities, investments in our nation's energy delivery system can provide an economic shot in the arm to areas that have been left behind.

Energy infrastructure is key to positive economic growth and helps keep our lives operating - from our alarm clock in the morning, traveling to work each day, feeding our families and charging our phones at night. The convenience energy provides is unparalleled, and its advancement is now more important than ever.
As the United States, and the world, enters a long era of increased energy demand we need more than just onshore shale oil and natural gas to meet our energy needs. We will need to make the best possible use of all our resources, including an increased program of offshore leasing that will lead to greater economic strength.
The natural gas surplus generated by the shale revolution has led to several benefits, including lower wellhead prices, reduced imports and rising inventories of natural gas storage. In addition, the cost of drilling new shale wells has dramatically declined. This means that fewer rigs are being employed, but new wells are more productive and cost-efficient.
"...it is no wonder that the public is often confused about air quality in their city, county, state, and nation." That's a gentle way of saying that Americans have been misled by the media and agenda-driven environmental groups.
"Developing our abundant offshore energy resources is a critical part of a robust, forward-looking energy policy that will secure our nation's energy future and strengthen the U.S. energy renaissance."
